Dates for community litter picks in Great Cornard have now been set following the success of similar events in Sudbury.

They will run throughout the year after Great Cornard Parish Council agreed to cover the cost of collection equipment.

Councillors agreed the move after hearing from Bradley Smith, Sudbury Town Council community warden superviser, who oversees the picks in Sudbury.

He said: “This is a new concept for Great Cornard after the success of the community litter picks in Sudbury.

“There have been picks in the past but the councillors decided they wanted something a bit more structured.

“There’s not quite the same scale of litter in Great Cornard as there is in Sudbury but it is there nonetheless in places like children’s play areas and in alleyways, and we look forward to getting them up and running,”

The first takes place on Tuesday February 19 at 10am from The Stevenson Centre in Stevenson Approach.

Future picks are:

• Saturday March 16

• Tuesday April 16

• Saturday June 8

• Tuesday August 13

• Saturday September 14

• Tuesday October 29

• Saturday December 7

Picks will start at 10am from The Stevenson Centre in Stevenson Approach and will take place through the summer holidays and at weekends.
