The boss of a care home in Sudbury is celebrating success after being named national manager of the year in an award ceremony.

Maekhala Allan, of Mellish House in Great Cornard, won the accolade at the recent Caring Homes Group 'Recognition Awards'.

She received the award from TV dancer Brendan Cole, one of the orginal professional dancers on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, in a glitzy ceremony at the Heythrop Park Resort in Oxfordshire.

Maekhala was praised for "outstanding dedication to her staff, residents, families and the home, and exceeding in every area of the organisation".

She said: "I'm so pleased to have won this award. There are over 5,700 employees at Caring Homes Group, to be recognised for the work that I do is astonishing.

"At Mellish House we work to deliver the very best care for each of our residents and always happy to go the extra mile to ensure everyone is experiencing life to the full."
